Translating the fluid shape of the J into a tree person posed a challenge to me. Eventually, the limber qualities of a child's young body, gracefully swaying from a rope swing over a pond, inspired the J. Fittingly so, as J is the only letter of the alphabet I modeled after a youthful frame and I learned the etymology of the J. It being the most youthful edition to the English language, thanks to an Italian linguist, Gian Giorgio Trissino, was the first to formally recognize J as a letter with its own distinct sounds in 1524.
